You might have seen a few retweets, shares, and hashtags on my social media.. #justacard.

But what is it? Just a Card campaign encourages people to take their custom to designers/makers & independent galleries and shops; they do this by reinforcing the message that all purchases matter, and help smaller businesses, even if it is “just a card”.

The campaign came about when Artist & Designer, Sarah Hamilton, saw the quote “If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought ‘just a card‘ we’d still be open” by store keepers who’d recently closed their gallery. This prompted a call to action!

Everyday, I put my heart and soul into my little business, whether that’s spending weekends designing new products, scheduling on social media, taking photos, making new connections and friends, blogging about the behind the scenes.. it all takes a little bit of my ‘spare’ time. ‘Spare’ because I’m still working a full-time 9-5 job, to keep the bills paid.

You might have seen the saying “when you buy from a small business an actual person does a little happy dance”… it’s more than that, when you check your emails for the millionth time and someone has been on and purchased something, it’s just bloody lovely. You smile – inside & out!

But what more can we do to promote our businesses and put them at the forefront of people’s minds? I’m honestly not sure, if I knew maybe there’d be less people dashing into a mainstream supermarket for a card, and more popping onto my site, or another small business to order a card.

Get the word moving… JUST A CARD.
