Sunday Dinner at The Mill House, Birtley

I spent all of Saturday working on some new photos & video content for Christmas *eek* and well, I just knew before the day ended that I couldn’t be bothered to cook a roast on Sunday.

After seeing loads of good reviews on the trusty Instagram, I decided to book us a table for Sunday dinner at The Mill House in Birtley.

We had an appointment at the Genius Bar at Apple for Jamie’s AirPods, unfortunately, we turned up to the MetroCentre store to realise we should have been at Eldon Square – whoops!

So, we turned up at The Mill House a little earlier than expected. Our table was booked for 1.30, so we asked for a table in the bar for a few drinks first. We were seated in the conservatory on a tall table.

On arriving, we entered in the main doors, where we were greeted by staff in suitable PPE, and taken to our table wearing our masks through the pub to our table.

It was full table service and the staff were very attentive and prompt with their service.

At 1.15 we were taken to our table for dinner. As we walked through the restaurant, it was super busy with families and couples.

We were sat in a lovely little room, with a view onto the farm over the back of the pub.

Onto the food… I ordered Lamb Shoulder and Jamie ordered Lamb Leg. From ordering to being served was less than 10 minutes and the food was piping hot.

Our vegetables were served in side dishes to share, and we obviously got extra gravy & mint sauce.

The dinners were really nice, gravy full of flavour, a great selection of vegetables and a great big Yorkshire pudding. The dinners were £12.45 each and well worth it, the portions were huge, full of flavour and it wasn’t just all vegetables; my dinner was loaded with three cuts of lamb.

My only point of criticism would be that my meat was a little tough and I had wished I’d gone for the Lamb Leg, but it was still gorgeous and I ate it all so it couldn’t have been that bad.

I would definitely go back. hopefully we’ll be released from lockdown soon and we can meet some family or friends for dinner.

I should mention as well, the menu was really good for a pub on a Sunday.. there was a great selection for Sunday roasts, including vegetarian option. And for those in the family that don’t always fancy a dinner, there were other options available and a pizza menu too, plus kids choices.

We paid for this visit ourselves, this blog is based on my own opinion and experience of The Mill House and I haven’t been asked to post this. You can find all their menus on their website here should you fancy taking a trip there yourself,

Let me know if you go with your family or friends, if you like this blog or would like to see some more content like this – please let me know!
